Milestone’s microwave digestion systems are engineered to accelerate and standardize the acid digestion process, replacing traditional hotplate or open-vessel methods with closed-vessel microwave energy. These systems typically operate at high temperature (up to ~300°C) and high pressure (often exceeding 100 bar depending on vessel type), allowing complete breakdown of complex organic and inorganic matrices in significantly reduced digestion times. Common applications include soil, food, biological tissues, polymers, and industrial materials prior to elemental analysis.

Description

The systems feature high-strength digestion vessels made from materials such as PTFE and advanced composite polymers, designed to withstand aggressive acids like nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid under controlled conditions. Integrated sensors continuously monitor temperature and pressure in real time, ensuring safe operation and consistent digestion quality across samples. Many configurations also include rotor-based platforms capable of processing multiple samples simultaneously, improving laboratory throughput.

Milestone also provides dedicated platforms such as single-vessel high-throughput digesters and multi-position rotor systems, allowing laboratories to scale workflows based on sample volume and complexity. These systems are widely recognized for their safety features, automation capabilities, and reproducibility, making them a critical tool for laboratories requiring precise and efficient sample preparation for trace elemental analysis.
